The Coal Town Museum’s “Picker’s Challenge”
With the success of several television shows focused on discovering historical artifacts and collectible items, “picking” is a popular pastime these days.
This year the center booth in the Coal Town museum, located at Main and Vine streets, will challenge one’s knowledge of historic and vintage artifacts.
Several items of mystery will be displayed. Visitors can try to identify the items, their purpose, and their age. All of the items come from the local area. From time to time these type of items can be found in antique shops, flea markets and garage sales. However, they do not appear very often.
Those who know what all the items are can consider themselves top local pickers. Descriptions of the items will be available so all can learn about each artifact.
LIFT’s mission revolves around preservation and education. The Coal Town and Railroad Museum staff hopes visitors come to the museum, bring the young ones in the family, and have fun with this display and the picker’s challenge.
